We are always on the look out for bars, restos or shacks that serve that little bit of “summer in a glass”. We start with these five great places in London town and some of their fresh cachaça concoctions. Saúde!
Barrio Bars (welovebarrio.com)
Barrio bars are an ever-vibrant always-buzzing trio of bars located in Soho, Islington and Shoreditch; An irresistible parallel universe straight into the Latin World.Tropical vibes, funky music sets and a bar staff that entertain the hell out of even the stuffiest guest. Try one of their top drinks, the sultry Brazilian Lady, also invented in Barrio Norte by former bar master Colin Macy (where is he now?!): a mix of Abelha, passion fruit, and cool lemon shaken with egg white and served like a senorita.
Sushi Samba (sushisamba.com)
Perched near the top of the dizzying Heron Tower lies Sushisamba: home to incredible views, delicious food…and great cocktails! Operating under a Japan/Peruvian/Brazil fusion, the restaurant offers the best from each country, and cachaça drinks are a highlight. Currently, Sushisamba offer two of their own versions of the classic Brazilian batida: The Pistachio and Avocado Batida, with fresh avocado purée swizzled through crushed ice with cachaça, pistachio orgeat and cacao. Or the Batida de Mango: cachaça with mango cream and passion fruit churned through ice and spiked with Benedictine liqueur.
This popular Old Street hangout holds cachaça as one of the main stars for making great cocktails. Always a good vibe, although we would like to see them bring back the DJ perch above the entrance! Floripa’s talented bartenders created some great recipes that goes beyond your traditional Brazilian drink; try the “Presidente do Brasil” a delicious mix of Abelha cachaça, pomegranate syrup and dry martini.
Spiritual Caipirinha Bar (spiritualsessions.co.uk)
Spiritual is one of Camden’s best kept secrets, almost hidden in a little street just off Chalk Farm Road. The bar made a name by offering one of the largest ranges of flavoured caipirinha, crafted from the freshest ingredients. From the traditional caipirinha to the exotic kiwi, passion fruit, grape and tamarind caipirinha, all of them are worth a try!
Made in Brasil Boteco (madeinbrasilboteco.co.uk)
Made in Brasil Boteco claims to offer the largest selection of cachaça in the UK. Owner Renato Paziam brought a staggering 100 different cachaças back to English shores! The extensive list of Brazilian-style cocktails, which includes classics and newer variations such as Acai Caipirinha, Cachaça Sours and Chilly Mary Caipirinha, should make it difficult for visitors to choose their favourite.
